Supporting Specialized Care Closer to Home for RVH’s Tiniest Patients

On Wednesday, May 8th, McHappy Day is back. Visit any one of the McDonald’s locations in Barrie on May 8, and proceeds from every menu item sold will support RVH’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Ronald McDonald House Toronto.

If you can’t make it to a McDonald’s location in Barrie, but would still like to support RVH’s tiniest patients, use the form below to make a donation in support of McHappy Day.

About RVH’s NICU

Twins born at RVH in 2023 with one requiring specialized NICU care – Mom and baby Verena spend some quality time with Dad and twin sister, Lea in RVH’s NICU. Today both twins are happy and healthy, thanks in part to the care they received in RVH’s NICU!

Last year, more than 165 babies required the support of RVH’s NICU, spending, on average, 13 days receiving critical care before going home with their families.

RVH’s NICU is original to the Georgian Drive facility and is long overdue to be modernized and expanded. Our region’s sickest babies are cared for in a very tight space – about 35 square feet for each of its 12 bed-spots – well below the current industry best practice.

A planned re-design and expansion of the NICU will give families additional space, with more privacy to bond and heal, and updated and additional specialized equipment for resuscitation, ventilation, and monitoring. And donations from our generous community partners like McDonald’s will play a vital role in making that expansion possible.
