World-Class Cancer Care Thanks to You
In true fall fashion, October has arrived with vibrant red, orange, and yellow leaves, blue skies, and every shade of pink you can imagine. This season reminds us to be thankful for the beautiful—and wild—life our region offers and for the strength and compassion within our community as we rally for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

YOUR GIFTS HELP SAVE LIVES LIKE LAURA’S
Standard mammography scans at Laura Gordon’s community hospital kept returning clear results, despite her feeling a significant lump. She had her next scan using RVH’s state-of-the-art TC mammography equipment, funded in part by donors like you, which revealed four tumours – three stacked on top of each other in one breast, and one in her lymph nodes.
“Without that life-saving technology to detect the cancer, my story would have had a much different ending,” Laura shares. “But because of [donor] kindness, they’ve saved my life. This equipment has saved my life.”
YOU’RE SUPPORTING PEOPLE LIVING WITH CANCER
Breast cancer is the most treated cancer at Hudson Regional Cancer Centre (HRCC). Laura joined the more than 2,400 people treated for breast cancer annually. This makes up 17% of all people receiving treatment for cancer.
Your gifts are helping to make big enhancements to the care people get at HRCC, and not just for those living with breast cancer. With new leading-edge technology like the PET-CT scanner and two LINACs, you are helping people living with cancer keep a higher quality of life with earlier diagnoses, more personalized treatment plans and less invasive procedures.

Thank you to event organizers and the Braestone community who’ve rallied to support the health and wellbeing of our loved ones since 2021 with the Braestone Winter Classic. The addition of this new event to their roster shows their dedication to supporting advanced, complex cancer-care close to home.
SUPPORT OUR KIDS’ MENTAL HEALTH
Did you know that in 2023, a staggering 75 percent of all health centre admissions for children aged 11 to 17 at RVH were related to mental health issues? With rising rates of anxiety, depression, and other conditions exacerbated by social media, school pressures, and the lingering effects of the pandemic, the need for robust mental health support has never been greater. As the only one of its kind in the region, RVH’s Child and Youth Mental Health program is a lifeline for many families.
