It Takes a Village
There’s an African proverb that says: it takes a village to raise a child.
At RVH, we see that truth every day—in the care our teams give, in the strength of our families, and in the support of people like you.
Whether you’ve donated, volunteered, or simply stayed connected, you’re part of the village. You show up when it matters most.
Because of that, moms, babies, and families feel supported—not just by professionals, but by a whole village standing behind them.
This month’s stories reflect that spirit. They remind us that every gesture—big or small—has the power to bring comfort, hope, and healing.
Stay healthy. Stay wild.

From Crisis to Community
A mother. A 50 day NICU stay. A community that showed up and gave back.
Tilla Fuller’s daughter was born 10 weeks early, but thanks to the care she received and support from her family and friends, both mom and baby came through stronger.

This McHappy Day, local McDonald’s owners brought more than Happy Meals—they brought heart.
Watch as they surprised our NICU families with a special gift—reminding us all what it means to show up for one another.

Gratitude is the Greatest Gift
Your story can thank a caregiver—and remind them why their work matters. This month, you’re invited to share yours in honour of Doctors Day and Nurses Week.
A few heartfelt words can go a long way towards building a community of care.

It’s Not Just Care—It’s Connection.
RVH’s Birthing Unit is one of the busiest—and oldest—units in the health centre. More than 2,000 babies are born here every year, and that number keeps growing.
To keep pace, RVH is reimagining how we care for moms and babies. This bold plan includes new spaces designed for healing, connection, and comfort in those first precious days. It means better equipment, smarter technology, and, importantly, more support for maternal mental health—because recovery isn’t just physical.
A recent Today’s Parent article put it plainly: all new moms should see a therapist. The numbers back it up. According to CAMH, one in five pregnant and postpartum people experience anxiety or depression. Only 10% receive treatment.
At RVH, donors help change that. “Care for mom is just as important as care for baby,” says Audra Jesso, Manager of Birthing and Obstetrics. “To really set our new parents up for success, we have to prioritize their mental health alongside their physical recovery.”
The future Birthing Unit will include a Women’s Health Centre offering care for every stage, including perinatal mental health, early pregnancy and loss clinics, and mother and newborn clinics.
Because of you, moms won’t have to struggle in silence. They’ll have care that listens and heals.
